When Louy Magroos got married it just had to be a handmade extravaganza!
A Unique mother of the bride gift
Looking back one of the best parts of our wedding was the fun Mike and I both had designing and making the little touches that made the day uniquely ours. And of course that meant handmade jewellery for all of our favourite people.
My Mum isn’t a big shopper, she isn’t at all interested in trawling shops so it was tricky to get her commit to finding her wedding outfit. I knew from the beginning I wanted to make her some jewellery to match her outfit and of course Mum decided on every colour of the rainbow at some point during the year of wedding planning.
After some gentle nagging over a couple of months I ended up asking my Dad to help hurry her up, an hour later I got a text with a picture…Your Mum has bought her outfit!
Aqua and Navy, perfect!
I chose to use both shades of blue and bought some beautiful stones, Lapis Lazuli and Aqua Blue Chalcedony Cabochons both from Kernowcraft. If you are looking for some gem stones I recommend Kernowcraft for good quality and fast shipping, and if you are making earrings be sure to tell them on your order and they will do their best to match two stones together for you free of charge.
With free reign and a gorgeous set of stones this is what I made…
I had to do a bit of guess work on the length of the necklace and as I knew my Mum was on the hunt for a fascinator I chose an small drop earring design.
Mother of the bride gift from daughter
It wasn’t until we were all getting ready on the morning of the wedding that I gave the jewellery out as gifts so it was great to see what a perfect match they were.
The aqua against my mums summer skin and the navy jacket was perfect.
What do you think?
They were a big hit with my Mum and she had lots of compliments on her outfit, so I think my nagging was justified after all.
If you are looking for a unique piece of jewellery designed especially for you, why not get in touch. Perhaps you too are getting married and would like some special gifts for the Mother of the Bride or Bridesmaids, I would love to make some thing for you. Please send me a message here, all budgets and ideas welcome.
Or why not have a little look through my Collections to find the perfect gift for your special someone.
Of course my Mum wasn’t the only one to have her own individually designed piece of jewellery… I will share more soon.

Fantastic blog item and not to say a lovely thought and gift!!
We all had jewellery envy at the Chief Bridemaids gift and if you do a blog about that don’t forget to include the bit about the gowns (getting ready ones ?!)
I hope all the recipients appreciate the thought and hard work behind your creations!!
You are also a very talented jeweller xxx
